Shepperton Studios plants first of 30k trees and shrubs as part of Queen's initiative

The planting programme includes a wide variety of species

Shepperton Studios has taken part in the Queen's Green Canopy initiative by planting four cherry trees, the first of 30,000 trees and shrubs to be planted at the studio over the next two years.

Shepperton Studios planted the trees in the gardens of Littleton House as part of the initiative in honour of the Queen's Jubilee.

Last week saw the celebration of National Tree Week and the cherry trees (Prunus hillieri 'Spire’) planted are the first of over 2,000 trees, plants and shrubs planted across the site over this current season alone.

The planting programme includes a wide variety of species including acer, Scots pine, silver birch and English oak and forms a key part of the studio’s commitment to enhance the local ecology and environment.

The cherry trees were chosen in recognition of Mary Poppins Returns which was shot at the studios in 2018 and is in keeping with the rest of the trees in the gardens of Littleton House.

In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old. 2022 also marks the 90th anniversary of Shepperton Studios first opened in 1932.
