WHAT IS ‘SCANDI STYLE’ ?

Here we explore the design movement from 20th century

'Scandi Style' seems to be very popular amongst various homes we visit at the moment, so we thought we would see what 'Scandi Style' actually is.

Scandinavian design is a design movement characterised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality that emerged in the early 20th century and subsequently flourished in the 1950's throughout the five Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. It includes the use of natural materials, such as leather, wood and hemp.

The use of lighting is very important. Many Scandinavian homes can home daylight for as little as 7 hours a day. The manner in which lighting is used is important and Scandinavian decor should have different forms of lighting to provide adequate illumination in the entire space.

The Scandinavian regions experience climates with extremely cold temperatures. Therefore, warm textiles are common for home decor. Throws, rugs made from wool, sheepskins or mohair are popular.
