UPCYCLING - IT COULD BE YOUR FAVOURITE NEW HOBBY

UPCYCLING - IT COULD BE YOUR FAVOURITE NEW HOBBY

The weather is great and we are stuck at home in lockdown. Get some old furniture and ‘upcycle’.

Top ten tips to upcycle.

1.   Prepare what you need – have you got the tools and equipment required? Most importantly make sure you give all furniture a wipe down before you

2.  Have no limits. Old wooden ladders can make great places to display plants and old washing machine drums can make great plant pots.

3.  What old furniture do you have in the loft, garage or shed? You may well have furniture lying around you can bring a new lease of life to.

4.  Be sympathetic to the original style for greatest effect.

5.  Use good paint brushes, you get what you pay for. Wrap brushes and rollers in tinfoil or clingfilm in between coats to keep the brush moist and then clean them as soon as you've finished painting or waxing.

6.  Be bold. There are so many colours to choose from and plenty of ideas on Pinterest to inspire you.

7. Remove old drawer knobs first so you don't paint around them only to find when you remove the old ones, the new ones are smaller and you have a space with no paint.

8.  Explore products that can help. For example, protective outdoor paints and sprays mean for outdoor spaces. Crackle glaze products can help age a piece easily.

9.   Once you have finished your project, make sure you protect it with wax or varnish.

10. You can’t make a mistake in upcycling.
